"I was really looking forward to Steven Altman's The Time Machine Musical. I can sum up the experience with the same word used in those Guinness commercials: Brilliant! Altman has created a beautiful piece of theater and has adapted it for the Fringe with the help of director Joshua Fardon, effectively turning a two-hour musical into a one-hour revue. In addition, Altman is quite effective as William Parke, the eccentric inventor of the time machine.
The Time Machine Musical is superb! Photo credit: www.hollywoodfringe.org The assembled cast is quite remarkable, creating a true ensemble. However, several of them did stand out in their performance. Besides Altman, I was most impressed with two of the Eloi, Tara Price and Tara Raucci, as well as Argonauts/Morlocks James Hanna and Jonathan Grey.
Although this was a workshop performance, I can hardly wait to see the full length musical. This show could very well win a Tony."

"It’s no easy feat to adapt a book written over a century ago to a modern musical that had me wondering when I could download the songs on iTunes. The music is very much in the style or the “rock operas” like Spring Awakening or Rent. These are songs that could fool any young hipster into thinking it was the latest track from the hottest indie band. Despite the non-stop action and the 19 songs, this condensed version didn’t feel rushed and Fardon really allows the actors to take their time with tender moments and to tell a moving story of a lost man torn between two different worlds and times."
