Naked Angels' wildly successful free cold reading series Tuesdays@9 is coming to Chicago. We start at The Annoyance Theatre on Tuesday, September 4 and continue every Tuesday through the rest of the year and beyond.
Tuesdays@9 is Naked Angels' long running, free cold reading series started in New York in 1991. There are currently Tuesdays @9s in NYC, Los Angeles, and Miami.
Every week, we cast and present excerpts of new writing to an audience of fellow artists, friends and supporters. Tuesdays@9 operates with an open submissions policy throughout the year, and hosts an open casting session at the start of each week. Tuesdays@9 has always been — and always will be — free and open to all artists and audience members.
Here's how it works: actors perform ten pages of new unproduced plays/teleplays/screenplays/works-in-progress in front of a live audience. The writers (who have been notified their pieces are scheduled in the week prior) show up at the Annoyance Bar/Lobby at 8:15 pm; actors arrive/scenes are cast at 8:30; the house opens at 8:45 and the show starts at 9:00. There are no rehearsals - everything is read cold.
Writers: we have an open submissions policy. One need only attend to be eligible – submissions will not be accepted via email. Bring two ten-page (no more than ten pages, please!) hard copies with your name and contact info printed clearly on the first page. Submit your pages after the show.
Actors: Want to read new material in front of a live audience? Show up in the lobby at 8:30, introduce yourself so we know you're here, and you may be cast!
Or, simply drop by to hear some great new work in process. We welcome everyone.
The Annoyance is open at 6:30 pm, the house is open at 8:45 pm. Come early to grab a drink and some food at the bar. Seating is limited to 45 people, and tickets will be distributed at the box office on a first-come-first-served basis – TICKETS are available the night of performance only, and ALL TICKETS ARE FREE.
